This is the last Letter from the Editor that will be written by me. I am anticipating retiring and am transitioning my editorial duties for the Business Valuation Review to the new editor, Dr. Victor Jarosiewicz.

I’m writing this column on Christmas Eve 2018, although by the time you see it spring will likely be just around the corner. Nonetheless I hope that each of you had a healthy and prosperous 2018. I feel very lucky to have found such an intellectually stimulating career as business appraisal.
Have We Lost the Forest For the Trees?
When BVR recently announced the launch of the Cost of Capital Professional, the author was pleased with its back-to-basics approach to estimating the cost of equity. The growing complexities of various aspects of business valuation prompted him to write this article, which speaks to the need to preserve the “art” of valuation.
