It’s difficult to think of another industry that has as many layers of regulations as healthcare, especially in the era of health reform. Many of these rules impact valuation because they can significantly affect future revenue of healthcare providers.
The ambulatory surgery center (ASC) field will be very active this year with new transactions and partnerships, according to the “2016 ASC Valuation Survey” from HealthCare Appraisers Inc. Almost 90% of survey respondents say they plan to purchase an ASC this year, and 22% of those say they’ll acquire between six and 10 ASCs.
At the recent AICPA 2015 Healthcare Industry Conference in Las Vegas, several hospital CFOs participated in a panel moderated by Britt Tabor (Erlanger Health System). The panelists were Geoff Gardner (Novant Health), Lori Ritchey-Baldwin (St. Elizabeth Healthcare), and Steven R. Blake (Paladin Healthcare Management, LLC and Avanti Hospitals). They commented on retail health and the impact of the new insurance exchanges.
