Had i4i not prevailed at the Supreme Court, the Nortel auction would likely have been much different

IPBlog discussed some time ago the impact the Microsoft v i4i case had on patent value.  An insider, Michael Cannata of NW Patent Funding Corporation, which provided financial support to i4i, reinforces the point that had Microsoft prevailed in its attempt to lower the standard for invalidating a patent, the Nortel patent auction would have entailed much more risk and yielded much lower value.

Joff Wild takes it one step further.  If the patent auction at Nortel had been average, in terms of valuation, the game-changing movement towards business and investor attention to IP management that has come post-Nortel would not have occurred.
