BT asked to turn off access to internet for known pirate

The Motion Picture Association (MPA) in the UK has filed a legal action against an internet provider in order to bring a notorious IP pirate to its knees.  In a test case, Disney, Fox and Paramount Pictures are behind the effort to deny internet access to Newzbin2, a website once disabled when on UK soil (as Newzbin) but now operating out of the Seychelles. Newzbin2 is accused of illegally sharing 115,000 films and 320,000 TV programs.

Disney had threatened to sue ISPs before, in 2002. The studios’ lawyer chided BT: “If [they] could not see that happening then they have to be the biggest ostrich in history.” Predictably, BT is fighting the requested injunction on jurisdiction issues.
