In an analysis published December 16, 2010, Ray Milien offered a compelling argument for placing the overall (global) value of the IP marketplace (in 2009) at $173.4B, with the U.S. share at nearly half that amount. He derived the data from IMF data on Balance of Payments for Royalties and Licenses, country by country.
