Federal Judge Orders a Permanent Shutdown of LimeWire
The popular file-sharing site LimeWire has been ordered permanently shut down (finally) six months after a federal judge found it guilty of copyright infringement (“on a massive scale”), according to the Wall Street Journal. The lawsuit was brought in 2006 by the Recording Industry Association of American on behalf of its members. Ironically, the October 26 announcement coincides with MySpace’s announcement of new tools to allow sharing of videos and music. Perhaps MySpace is waiting for the damages hearing, scheduled for January, 2011.
