OIG hospital probes may extend to Medicare Part B

Hospitals could face compliance reviews over Medicare Part B, according to a Bloomberg BNA healthcare blog. Speaking at a conference, Daniel R. Levinson, Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Office of Inspector General (OIG), said the agency might be interested in performing compliance reviews on Medicare Part B providers.

Big recoveries: So far, hospital compliance reviews have led to $34 million in recoveries, Levinson said, and he said OIG expects to do another 24 hospital reviews this year. He hopes that "we'll transfer the benefits of our hospital compliance reviews to Part B."

Levinson made his remarks at the Health Care Compliance Association’s 2013 Compliance Institute meeting April 21-24 in Maryland.
